Road to Emmaus – 3Rd Sunday of Easter

Road to Emmaus – 3Rd Sunday of Easter

What’s today about?

Have you ever been surprised by a friend? I wonder how it felt? In our story today some of Jesus’ friends were surprised by him.

News had not spread to all of Jesus’ friends that he was alive. Some of his friends were walking home, sad and hurting. They thought Jesus was dead! But they were in for a surprise! Jesus met them on their way home!

God meets us where we are whether we are sad, happy, lonely, afraid or excited. Sometimes it can be hard to see if God is with us.

We will listen to the story of the road to Emmaus, pray together and respond to the story in a creative way.

Hearing from the Bible!

Let’s listen to this Bible story:

You can find that story in the Bible Luke 24. 13-35

Questions? Choose one of the following questions.

  1. What parts of the story were your favourites?
  2. What were the most important parts?
  3. What would have you felt when Jesus was revealed?
  4. If you could be any character in the story who would you be?

Lets Pray – Thankful Friends

You will need material for modelling:

  • Pipe cleaners
  • Play dough
  • Clay
  • Blutack
  • Paper

What to do:

Jesus’ friends where so happy when they found out it was Jesus who had come to have lunch with them. As we are in isolation to protect others and ourselves we can be missing our friends, but also we can be thankful that we will see them when we get out of isolation.

Make a model of friends and family and thank God for them, if you can, tell them you are thinking and praying for them.

Responding to the story:

Have a go at one of these activities to help think about the story:

Craft: Walking with Jesus Sandals

You will Need:

  • Paper
  • Card
  • Scissors (adult help)
  • String
  • Tape
  • Pens
  • Decorations.

What to do:

Follow these link as to how to make your sandals

Or making them out of paper

https://www.instructables.com/id/how-to-make-paper-sandals/

Write on the Sandals “Walking with Jesus – Luke 24. 13-35”

Decorate your sandals as much as you like!

Hang up your sandals to remind you that Jesus is always walking with us even if we do not realise.

Think: Have you ever thought you lost something to later find it again? How did it feel?

Game: Charades

Jesus’ friends knew who He was when He broke bread and was revealed to them. We are going to play a game where you need to find out what people are by the way they act.

Need:

  • Space to do actions
  • An idea of a person or animal you can act out.

What to do:

  • Pick an animal or person DO NOT TELL ANYONE
  • Act out the animal or person (not using any words)
  • People need to guess what you are
  • The winner gets to take their turn next!

Think: How do you recognize people you know?
